Description:
Race Against Time tells the remarkable story of Ellen MacArthur, who on the night of February 7th, 2004, became the fastest person ever to sail solo around the world. Crossing an imaginary line off Brittany just after 10:00 PM, she broke the record previously held by French sailor Francis Joyon, who had cut over 20 days off the prior benchmark, a record many believed would stand for a decade or more.

MacArthur’s extraordinary solo voyage required immense determination, pushing her to the limits of human endurance. Her achievement captured global attention, and the scenes at her triumphant return to Falmouth were euphoric. Many hailed her as one of the finest sailors her country had ever produced.

Drawing on logs, emails, sound and video diaries, this beautifully designed, fully illustrated book captures the drama, excitement, danger, joy, and tears of Ellen’s achievement, all in her own words.

About the Author:
Ellen MacArthur has been described by the Observer as “the first true heroine of the 21st Century.” She is a two-time Sailor of the Year, World Champion, Sunday Times Person of the Year 2001, and runner-up in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Ellen hails from Whatstandwell, Derbyshire, and now resides in Cowes.
